"The community choir with a difference"
In September 2024 we will be welcoming Dominic Downs as our new Music Director.
Dominic is a prize-winning pianist and composer and experienced performer, who featured on BBC1 in October 2023, where he was described as, ‘an exceptional talent with a bright future ahead of him’.
Dominic has a long association with choral music, starting as a boy treble at Lancaster Priory aged 6 (where, coincidentally, he was led by our former interim Music Director, Jeremy Truslove) before he began learning the piano aged 7.
Dominic won a scholarship to Chetham’s school of Music aged 12, studying composition and piano. His love of voice developed through composition of works for SATB choir and solo voice, alongside opportunities for choral and orchestral conducting, including taking part in master classes.
Dominic won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music for composition but chose to study piano at the Royal Northern College of Music under Dr Murray McLachlan. He has a busy recital programme at venues around the UK, alongside his studies.
